PML-N's Rana Sanaullah says Parliament to decide on more provinces

Rana Sanaullah, the Prime Minister's adviser on political affairs, stated on Saturday that Parliament will determine the creation of new provinces. This matter gained attention in late July when Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi proposed new provinces as part of governance reforms, which sparked reactions from government ministers.

During a press conference in Lahore, Sanaullah was questioned about Naqvi's comments on the need for new administrative units to better manage Pakistan's growing population and changing needs. Sanaullah disagreed, asserting that the debate should have occurred in Parliament rather than at an economic forum. He reiterated that the final decision on new provinces would be made by Parliament, and if the public desired new provinces, no one could prevent it, as the decision on public opinion could only be made in Parliament.

Sanaullah's PML-N party is currently discussing the matter and plans to release a policy statement once a proper resolution emerges. He emphasized that any referendum to gauge public opinion would require parliamentary approval. Additionally, Sanaullah addressed the recent rift between the PPP and PML-N over the Azad Jammu and Kashmir election results, suggesting that both parties should work towards an amicable resolution. He expressed hope for improved relations following their discussions.
