Umno Deputy President Khaled Nordin claims that a splintering of the Malay population will diminish respect and confidence in the Malay party on the peninsula, during a speech on the final day of the Umno General Assembly in Kuala Lumpur. He argues that the splintering and fragmentation of the Malay political power showcases the weakness of the Malay party as the ruling government, and lacks achievements.

Khaled contends that if we cannot manage the Malays well, how can we convince our friends in Sabah and Sarawak to continue trusting us in leading Malaysia's government? He emphasized that the weakness of the Malay party in the peninsula as the leader and driver of Malaysia's development is a concern for the people of Sabah and Sarawak, who question whether the peninsula should continue to receive preferential treatment in guiding and advancing Malaysia.

Given that both regions are now stable, united, and showcasing strong performance, Khaled believes restoring Malay unity means restoring confidence in the peninsula's condition being good, mutually supportive, and deserving to continue leading Malaysia's development. This is why we must unite the Malay population, he said. The issue of Malay confidence in Sabah and Sarawak will be a focus of discussion during the 2026 PAU, as Deputy President Mohamad Hasan noted both regions have now become the key determinants, and Umno needs their confidence to form the government.

Meanwhile, Khaled announced that the proposal to increase the validity period of Putera Umno membership to 40 years will be decided after the 2016 general election, as the matter needs to be thoroughly examined, including its impact on women and the party.
