Mumbai: BMC’s HBT Trauma Care Hospital May Face Added Patient Load As ESIS Seeks Empanelment

Mumbai, September 12, 2026: The Employees' State Insurance Scheme (ESIS) may seek to include the BMC-run HBT Trauma Care Hospital in Jogeshwari East in its network if the hospital agrees to provide secondary healthcare to ESIS beneficiaries. This proposal could result in increased patient loads for the already bustling trauma center, which currently serves patients from the western suburbs and surrounding areas.

Health officials have raised concerns about whether the hospital will have sufficient manpower, infrastructure, and financial resources to handle the additional patient flow without compromising the quality of care for existing BMC patients. ESIS officials have written to HBT Trauma Care requesting the initiation of the empanelment process and the provision of necessary documentation.

If approved, ESIS beneficiaries and their families would be able to access secondary healthcare services at the trauma hospital, which is currently operated under the Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS), Government of India and National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) rates. However, the proposal is still in the requesting stage, and the final decision will depend on the hospital's willingness to accept the terms and complete the required formalities.
