Milan substitutes come to the rescue as they draw at Lazio

Rome: Belgium winger Diego Moreira scored twice for AC Milan as the Italian side staged a remarkable fightback to draw 2-2 with top-of-the-table Lazio in their opening Serie A match of the season on Saturday. Moreira came off the bench at halftime and swiftly equalized, followed by a goal in the 65th minute to complete the turnaround. Despite losing their perfect start to the season after three consecutive victories, AC Milan's manager Gennaro Gattuso's team climbed to the summit of the table.

Ruben Amorim's Milan were fifth on eight points following a goalless draw at Juventus on the weekend. Manager Amorim admitted his side lacked energy and created too much space for Lazio in the first half. However, after the break, his team became a completely different outfit as they turned the game on its head. Manager Amorim made three substitutions at halftime, including bringing on 22-year-old Moreira, and his changes paid off with the young winger scoring both goals.

Lazio took the lead in the 10th minute through Matteo Cancellieri after connecting with a Mattia Zaccagni cross. Lazio's dominant performance saw them increase their lead to two goals up just before halftime as Tijjani Noslin added a second goal in the 39th minute with a close-range finish. Despite Milan's late rally, neither side managed to find a late winner, leaving the league title race wide open.

Cagliari moved up to fourth place with a 2-1 win at Atalanta, thanks to a late penalty from Daniel Maldini. French forward Yael Trepy was also in good spirits as he was cleared to return to training after being in a coma for a week following a near-drowning incident. Genoa secured their first point of the season with a 1-1 draw against Frosinone. Next up, Inter Milan face Udinese on Monday, while Roma travel to Torino and Como hosts Parma in their respective home games.
