Kon Yeow orders excos to clear unfinished Penang2030 projects before he steps down as chief minister

George Town, September 12 — Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow has instructed all state executive councillors to compile lists of Penang2030 projects under their portfolios that have not been initiated or finished, according to a report. The directive was issued several weeks ago, and Chow personally oversees the progress of these outstanding initiatives.

He stated, "I have given an order a few weeks ago for every exco to list down things that they have not completed, and I hope that they will take action to complete it. I want to hand over Penang nicely to the successor." At a press conference, Chow released the Penang2030 eighth-year report card, which showcased the administration's achievements and areas for improvement.

He expressed his satisfaction with the overall performance, giving it a score of 70 percent. Out of the key Penang2030 targets, approximately 80 percent had been achieved or were progressing in areas such as welfare, housing assistance, local government reform, tourism, education, agriculture, entrepreneurship, and youth development.

However, Chow identified agriculture as an area that requires further enhancement, noting that while Penang has established 384 urban farms, productivity remains below the state's target. He also emphasized the need to increase technology-assisted methods, such as smart agriculture, precision farming, and vertical farming, leveraging Penang's electrical and electronics industry and engineering expertise.

Additionally, reducing household water consumption was another target, with a goal of cutting water usage by at least 28 liters or ideally between 55 and 220 liters per person per day. Currently, the national average water consumption stands at 225 liters per capita daily, surpassing the World Health Organisation's recommended 165 liters.

Chow reiterated that there is still ample work to be done and highlighted that his administration's job is ongoing. He also mentioned that several significant infrastructure projects would continue beyond 2030 and that the following administration would decide whether to maintain or replace existing programs with new priorities.
