KUALA LUMPUR: Umno Vice President Mohamad Hasan proposed that a special election be held in Terengganu to test the sincerity of PAS's commitment to Malay unity and demonstrate their political cooperation for the 2016 General Election. Hasan suggested that if the sincerity formula proves successful, it could serve as a model for Malay unity heading into the 2016 General Election.

He encouraged testing the sincerity of PAS by holding a special election in Terengganu, emphasizing that mutual support is necessary to secure parliamentary seats. Hasan cautioned against a "one size fits all" approach to the electoral strategy, as each state's political scenario is unique. For instance, Selangor or Johor have distinct narratives, while Negeri Sembilan's approach focuses on avoiding internal party fragmentation, given Umno's majority win in the previous election.

Consequently, the presidency granted discretion to adapt strategies according to each state's circumstances. This flexibility is beneficial, as it prevents losing opportunities. However, it should not compromise one's honor and dignity. During the 2009 PRN, Umno and PAS engaged in informal cooperation, which helped both blocs secure 26 out of 36 state seats to form the state government.
