Hao-Yu Lee doubles and triples in 7-run 8th as Tigers rally past Rockies 11-7

Detroit Tigers pitcher Hao-Yu Lee scored two runs and tripled in a seven-run eighth inning as the Tigers clawed their way to an 11-7 victory over the Colorado Rockies on Saturday. The Tigers extended their winning streak to three games and handed Colorado a ninth consecutive road loss. Detroit trailed 7-4 when Lee and Gleyber Torres started the eighth inning with back-to-back doubles off Jaden Hill.

With runners on the corners, Eduardo Valencia's single put the Tigers in scoring position, and Max Clark's walk loaded the bases. Jordan Romano replaced Hill without recording an out, walking Spencer Torkelson and Ben Malgeri to extend the Tigers' lead to 8-7. John Peck added an RBI sacrifice fly, and Lee lined a two-run triple off the right-field wall to complete the rally.

Beau Briske earned the save, retiring Kenley Jansen in the ninth inning. The Tigers stranded 12 runners in the first seven innings. Detroit loaded the bases with one out in the second inning, but Peck grounded into a 6-4-3 double play. Kevin McGonigle and Hunter Goodman each homered for Colorado, and Beau Briske drove in the winning run in the top of the ninth.

Kevin McGonigle led off Colorado's seventh inning with his 17th homer, and Ezequiel Tovar followed with his 11th of the season. The Rockies took a 4-2 lead in the fourth inning on Adael Amador's RBI double, but Lee responded with an RBI double in the bottom half of the inning, tying the score at 4-4. Colt Keith's tying single followed, and Jake McCarthy extended the Colorado lead to 6-4 in the sixth inning.

Colorado's 11th homer by Ezequiel Tovar gave them a three-run cushion in the eighth inning. The teams will conclude their three-game series on Sunday, with Detroit pitcher Jackson Jobe facing Colorado's Gabriel Hughes.
