Gombe: Former Commissioner Quits APC, Pledges Support For Pantami

Former Gombe State commissioner and ex-chairman of Akko Local Government Council, Hon. Muhammad Ismail City, has announced his departure from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and pledged his support for former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Professor Isa Ali Pantami, prior to the 2027 governorship election. The defection and endorsement occurred during a meeting with Pantami at the latter's office.

This decision comes amidst increasing political realignments in Gombe State as politicians and groups prepare for the upcoming gubernatorial contest. In a statement, City emphasized his extensive experience in electoral administration and grassroots governance, stating that these competencies make him well-equipped to lead the state effectively.

He praised Pantami's visionary leadership, highlighting the former minister's tenure at the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) and his previous role as Minister of Communications and Digital Economy. City commended Pantami's ability to foster innovation, institute reforms, and promote strategic development throughout his public service career.

He also noted Pantami's international reputation as a scholar and his dedication to human capital development, youth empowerment, and infrastructure improvements.
