FG assures of safe resumption as unity colleges reopen Monday

The federal government has confidently assured Nigerians that federal unity colleges will reopen safely on Monday, September 14, 2026, for the resumption of academic activities. The Federal Ministry of Education announced this in a statement on Friday, noting that all necessary arrangements have been made to ensure a secure and untroubled start of the new academic session. Education Minister Dr Maruf Tunji Alausa emphasized that the wellbeing of students and staff is the utmost priority of the government.

According to Alausa, relevant security agencies have been fully briefed on the resumption plans and will maintain a heightened state of alert around the Federal Unity Colleges and their surrounding areas. The minister urged parents and guardians to trust official information and proceed with preparations for their children's return to school on Monday. He directed college authorities to maintain close collaboration with security agencies and other relevant bodies to guarantee a smooth and secure commencement.

Alausa appealed for unity among all stakeholders, including students, parents, teachers, school administrators, and the wider community, to foster peaceful and supportive learning environments. He stressed that the protection of students and their wellbeing is a collective responsibility. The ministry pledged to continuously monitor the situation and take appropriate actions in collaboration with relevant authorities to ensure the safe resumption of academic activities in the colleges.

This assurance comes as there have been concerns regarding the security and operational status of certain Federal Unity Colleges. The ministry reiterated its commitment to providing a safe and conducive learning environment as part of broader efforts to strengthen Nigeria's education system under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda.
