‘Clearest evidence’ of Chinese support? Iran got satellite images before Jordan attack

Iran reportedly acquired high-resolution satellite imagery from Chinese sources prior to a July missile attack on a U.S. military base in Jordan, resulting in the deaths of three American soldiers. According to a Wall Street Journal report, the imagery provided significant evidence of Chinese support for Iran during the conflict, although Beijing has denied any direct involvement.

The revelation comes as U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping prepare to meet on September 24. The satellite images were particularly valuable for Iran as earlier U.S. strikes had damaged its radar, satellites, and other surveillance equipment, limiting Tehran's ability to monitor American military positions.

While Iran's targeting accuracy improved during the summer, analysts noted that the Chinese imagery was just one component of Iran's intelligence gathering, which also included its own satellites, human sources, and Russian satellite systems. Despite the reported assistance, U.S. officials have downplayed the significance of Chinese support, especially as the two nations' leaders prepare for their summit.
