Casteist poster row: No intention to hurt any community: IIT Mandi probe committee report

An inquiry committee formed by IIT Mandi to investigate allegations surrounding a controversial casteist poster displayed at a Janmashtami event has concluded that there was no intention to target, insult or hurt any individual or community, according to a report by The Indian Express. The three-member committee, assisted by six members from the institute's Reservation Cell, submitted its findings to Director Laxmikant Behera on Saturday.

The committee recommended that the students involved be counselled and educated rather than facing disciplinary action. Key findings include that the event was not organized by the institute, no officially recognized student body was involved, institute funds were not used, and the poster did not carry the institute's approval or endorsement.

The committee found no evidence of intent to target any community and noted that the provisions of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989 were not applicable in this case.
