Amusan pockets $75k for Ultimate Champs silver

Nigerian athlete Tobi Amusan secured a silver medal and earned $75,000 after placing second in the women's 100m hurdles at the inaugural World Athletics Ultimate Championship in Budapest, Hungary. Amusan finished the race in 12.34 seconds, trailing American Masai Russell by 0.02 seconds, who claimed the top prize of $150,000 with a time of 12.22 seconds.

Amusan advanced to the final by finishing second in her semi-final with a time of 12.49 seconds, but was narrowly beaten by Devynne Charlton of the Bahamas, who claimed the semi-final victory in 12.45 seconds. Charlton, however, only placed fourth in the final, clocking 12.40 seconds. Russell also recorded the fastest time in the semi-finals, further cementing her dominance in the competition.

This silver medal marks the third consecutive time Russell has bested Amusan this season, following their encounters in Zurich and Brussels earlier this year. Amusan's silver brings an end to a season where she has continued to compete at the highest level despite relinquishing her world record to Russell in Zurich. The record, previously held by Amusan for four years, now stands at 12.09 seconds, achieved by Russell in the same event in Zurich.
