AGCOMS Launches Academy to Tackle Skills Gap in Nigeria’s Mechanisation Drive

AGCOMS International Trading Limited has launched the AGCOMS Academy to address the skills gap hindering Nigeria's mechanization of agriculture. CEO Chijioke Okoli emphasized that while investments in tractors and other equipment are crucial, the lack of skilled operators, technicians, and managers could render them underutilized.

The academy aims to equip personnel across the mechanization value chain with practical skills to translate machinery investments into higher productivity and profitable agricultural enterprises. AGCOMS, an authorized dealer of agricultural equipment, has trained over 380 individuals previously, demonstrating that successful mechanization depends on the competence of the personnel responsible for operating the machinery.

The academy's initial programs will focus on tractor operators and technicians, as well as service entrepreneurs and managers. The flagship program, Mechanisation Enterprise Management, will begin in Abuja in November, with plans to expand the training portfolio to include supervisors, business owners, and executives. AGCOMS hopes to build the Academy into a respected institution that develops professionals capable of operating machinery efficiently, managing mechanization businesses, and improving agricultural productivity.
