Abia lauds driver for returning passenger’s N400,000

The Abia State Government has praised a commercial bus driver, Onyekachi Ikpendu, for returning more than N400,000 that had been left behind by a passenger. Dr Chimezie Ukaegbu, the state Commissioner for Transport, described the driver's actions as a reflection of integrity and honesty. Ukaegbu noted that the incident demonstrated a shift in the mindset of residents towards responsible behavior.

Ikpendu, who had no desire to keep the money, emphasized that he was content with his earnings from his honest work. The passenger, Nkechi John, a trader, had boarded the bus from Uzuakoli and alighted at Ubani Market, inadvertently leaving her bag with the money and personal belongings in the vehicle. Upon realizing her mistake, John rushed to the Nnenna Oti Bus Terminal, where the driver had collected the cash and belongings.

Ikpendu expressed gratitude for not having to earn money through dishonest means and believed that honesty would be rewarded by God. The owner of the forgotten bag thanked the driver and praised Governor Alex Otti for the development of the bus terminal, stating that without the terminal, it might have been difficult to trace the vehicle and recover her business money.

Dr Ukaegbu urged residents to continue demonstrating honesty and integrity in their daily activities, citing the driver's actions as an example of responsible citizenship.
