‘A legend’: Celine Dion poised for emotional comeback in Paris

Paris awaits the return of Celine Dion to the stage this Saturday evening, after a six-year hiatus due to the rare neurological disorder Stiff Person Syndrome. The 58-year-old Canadian superstar will grace the Plenitude Arena with a sold-out 26-date residency, after years of uncertainty about her ability to perform. Around 30,000 fans have already gathered for the opening night, with some arriving a day early to soak in the atmosphere.

Fans, like Chloe and Katy Rydquist from London, paid a substantial amount for their tickets, eager to witness the legendary singer return to her roots. Dion has previously stated her readiness to return, dismissing the fear her vocal cords might bring. Her return comes after a surprise performance at the 2024 Paris Olympics opening ceremony, where she sang Edith Piaf's "Hymn to Love" on the Eiffel Tower.

In addition to the concert, Paris is hosting a range of fan activities, including costume contests, karaoke parties, and a massive singalong in the city's 19th district.
