‘You are zero at dancing’: How Katrina Kaif turned criticism into a Bollywood dance legacy

Dubai: Choreographers Farah Khan and Bosco Martis shine a light on Katrina Kaif's journey from a reportedly inexperienced dancer to a beloved figure in Bollywood's dance scene. The duo, speaking on a recent podcast, recounted Katrina's early struggles in her dance career and how she transformed into a sought-after performer.

Bosco Martis shared that Katrina was once allegedly told she was "zero" at dancing by a choreographer during her early career. Despite the setback, Bosco suggested that the experience likely fueled Katrina's determination to improve. Farah Khan chimed in, stating that Katrina could not have been a complete beginner, as she went on to deliver hit dance numbers in subsequent films.

The turning point in Katrina's career, according to Farah, was her performance in 'Sheila Ki Jawaani' from Tees Maar Khan (2010). She described this song as a "game changer" for Katrina, propelling her from being a "zero" or "four" to a "nine" or "ten". Farah also recalled that Katrina was not yet widely recognized as a dancer when they first choreographed her for 'Just Chill' from Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya?

At that time, Katrina confessed to feeling discouraged by the criticism she faced about her dancing abilities. However, Bosco encouraged her, believing she had the talent to improve with dedication.

Following Katrina's breakthrough, she went on to deliver memorable dance performances in songs such as 'Chikni Chameli' and 'Kala Chashma'. Her evolution from a criticized dancer to a regular in high-profile Bollywood dance numbers has become a significant part of her career. Katrina was last seen in Merry Christmas (2024) alongside Vijay Sethupathi, and she has since focused on motherhood while maintaining her presence in the industry.
