Why AI cannot replace actors — Filmmaker

Nigerian filmmaker Akay Mason has argued that AI-generated films cannot replace the emotional connection provided by human actors. In a post on X, Mason stated that AI films lack the emotional depth that audiences associate with genuine human performances, describing them as "empty." Mason also pointed out that the allure of human actors stems from celebrity culture and the tendency of audiences to idolize stars.

"We love to worship our stars. With AI films, there are no stars to worship. You know the character on screen is nothing but a series of codes," he added.

Mason acknowledged, however, that AI can be a helpful tool for certain technical aspects of filmmaking, such as fixing visual effects, lighting, or sound issues. But he firmly maintained that AI could not replicate the essence of a real actor's performance, which he described as the expression of the human soul.
