We’ve made significant progress in curtailing banditry, DIG Lagat says

Deputy Inspector General of Police Eliud Lagat has reported noteworthy advancements in the National Police Service's (NPS) campaign against banditry in the Kerio Valley. Speaking at the conclusion of a General Service Unit (GSU) training session at the Magadi Field Training Camp in Kajiado County, Lagat disclosed that the newly commissioned 1,273 GSU officers will significantly bolster the force's capacity to tackle banditry and other criminal activities in the area.

He emphasized that this increased manpower will enhance security operations and effectively address emerging threats.

Lagat also highlighted the NPS's proactive stance in anticipating the forthcoming El Niño rains, pledging to allocate sufficient personnel to 18 counties deemed high-risk during the October-to-December rainy season. In addition to these immediate efforts, he assured that the additional officers will be indispensable as Kenya prepares for the 2027 General Elections, further strengthening the country's security apparatus.

The GSU course, spanning nine months, covered a broad spectrum of policing, culminating in the passing-out parade. The newly minted officers will be sworn in and subsequently integrated with their colleagues at the National Police College in Nairobi County. The final parade is slated for September 18, 2026, and will be attended by President William Ruto.

The rigorous training program is meticulously crafted to provide officers with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively navigate the complexities of modern policing and uphold law and order across the nation.
