[UPDATED] Zahid wants Umno to put past differences behind it

KUALA LUMPUR: Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has called on the party to set aside past disagreements and cooperate with certain factions for the common good. Zahid outlined that this collaboration should foster national unity, prosperity, and justice while respecting each party's individuality. However, he cautioned against deception and insults, pointing out the inconsistencies in statements made during and outside meetings under the Madani administration.

He emphasized that Umno and Barisan Nasional would remain distinct entities. In the meetings, Zahid stated, he vowed to prevent such discrepancies from recurring. At the 2026 Umno General Assembly, he presented his "Grand Collaboration" proposal, aiming to establish political consensus among existing coalitions rather than merging parties.

The Malay community, he noted, is weary of persistent discord and called for renewed unity, asserting that no party would be compelled to compromise its identity. Zahid acknowledged the unease among Malays, who no longer wish to see further conflict within their community.
