In the past decade, the number of identified victims of human trafficking in Germany has significantly increased, according to a letter from the Federal Ministry of the Interior to the Left Party's Cem Ince. The Bundestag representative inquired about the number of these individuals who were connected with counseling services. The ministry stated that since 2021, there have been at least 800 victims of human trafficking annually.

Last year, 958 people were identified as victims of trafficking and exploitation. In comparison, the authorities had only identified 469 victims in 2015 and 656 in 2016. The majority of human trafficking victims in Germany are female, many of whom are forced into prostitution. More than one-fifth of the victims were referred to counseling services in the past two years, primarily through youth counseling or specialized advisory centers.

However, in earlier years, the proportion of victims referred to counseling services was higher, typically between 27% and 35%. Ince emphasized that the figures serve as an alarm for victim protection and that the state must ensure that victims are aware of their rights and have reliable access to support.
