‘Underperforming’ Kurt Okraku must not be compared with Kwesi Nyantakyi – George Afriyie

Former Ghana Football Association vice-president George Afriyie has vehemently criticized current GFA president Kurt Okraku, contending that he has fallen short of expectations. Afriyie staunchly defended Kwasi Nyantakyi, asserting that he remains the most successful leader in the association’s history. The debate over Ghana football’s future has intensified, with scrutiny being directed towards the state of the sport at both domestic and national team levels.

On the news program Atinka TV, Afriyie, a former GFA executive, lauded Nyantakyi’s accomplishments during his 13-year tenure and firmly stated that his legacy remains unparalleled. "Forget Kurt Okraku. Kwasi Nyantakyi is the greatest GFA President of all time. Nyantakyi’s achievements as GFA President are common knowledge, and no one can dispute them. Kurt is not succeeding but detests criticism," Afriyie declared.

According to Afriyie, Nyantakyi established a benchmark that subsequent administrations have been unable to match, highlighting the former president’s significant impact on Ghanaian football during his leadership. He contended that despite every football administration encountering its own set of challenges, the achievements recorded under Nyantakyi serve as a standard against which future leadership must be measured.

Nyantakyi helmed the GFA from 2005 to 2018, a period widely regarded as one of the most prosperous in Ghana football history. However, his presidency concluded following the release of the Number 12 investigative documentary, which led to his resignation from football administration positions.
