Umno thanks MCA, MIC for bringing Chinese, Indian voters back to BN

The Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition has expressed gratitude to fellow parties, MCA and MIC, for reviving Chinese and Indian voter support. Umno secretary-general Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki reported a surge in Chinese backing for BN during the recent Johor state election, with support rising to 20% from 9.5% in 2022. Similar growth was noted in Negeri Sembilan, where Chinese support nearly doubled from 8.7% to 14%.

Asyraf also thanked MIC president SA Vigneswaran for the significant increase in Indian voter support for BN, which jumped from 18.9% to 54.8% in Johor and from 17.6% to 49.6% in Negeri Sembilan. BN garnered the most Indian votes in both state elections this year. Additionally, Umno acknowledged the substantial rise in Malay support, increasing from 44.9% to 82.4% in Johor and from 45.8% to 79% in Negeri Sembilan.

This growth is attributed to Umno's cooperation with PAS, as well as support from the military, Felda voters, and youth. In Negeri Sembilan, BN secured 18 seats against Perikatan Nasional's seven, resulting in a two-thirds majority in the 36-seat state assembly. In Johor, BN retained control of the state government after winning 48 out of 56 contested seats.
