Umno facing increased political pressure after Johor, Negri Sembilan wins, says delegate

The Umno party is currently experiencing heightened political pressure from the opposition coalition Pakatan Harapan (PH) following their recent electoral victories in the Johor and Negri Sembilan elections, according to a delegate from Umno. The delegate, Muhammad Iqbal Jamal Jamaluddin, claims that Umno's success demonstrates the party's regaining of people's trust and its continued political strength.

However, the victories have also raised concerns among Umno's opponents and allies, making the party a political threat again. Iqbal urges party members to remain calm and maintain commitment to the rule of law and accountability, including full cooperation with investigations and court proceedings. He also calls for the party to acknowledge past mistakes and shortcomings, many of which are older than the recent three years.

The delegate criticizes Pakatan Harapan for attempting to weaken Umno through political pressure, but urges PH to instead focus on why voters rejected them. Iqbal notes that the rejection of PH should not be interpreted as unconditional support for Umno, but also reflects disappointment over unfulfilled promises. He suggests examining PH's political demands, such as the Malaysian Malaysia concept and equality, that may have contributed to discomfort among Malay voters.

The delegate also warns that Umno must have a clear determination and strategy for the upcoming 2026 general election, while acknowledging the need for thorough discussion on Islamic unity and fair representation in states like Perak.
