Chief minister says Melaka election not far off, dissolution of DUN required by year‑end

KUALA LUMPUR, September 11 — Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh has indicated that the state's next election will be held soon, with the dissolution of the state legislative assembly (DUN) required by the end of December. Speaking at the 2026 Umno General Assembly in Kuala Lumpur, Rauf stated that his administration has been working for the past two years to prepare for the dissolution of the DUN, as its five-year term is nearing its end.

Rauf mentioned that the exact candidate for the upcoming election remains undisclosed, but he emphasized that his team is open to cooperating with other political parties if the public desires. He also stated that the Melaka government will be willing to explore strategic partnerships with other parties once the DUN is dissolved.

Rauf assured that the 21 seats won by his party in the previous election will not be compromised and that his team will continue to fight for them. He praised Umno's president, Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, for outlining a clear direction for the party's future, not just for the upcoming state election but also for the general election (GE16) which he believes will be a turning point for Umno to regain its dominance in the country's politics.
