'That's why we fight': Trump links 9/11 to Iran conflict

President Donald Trump addressed the nation on Friday, emphasizing that the United States would never forget the events of September 11, 2001. Speaking at the Pentagon, he skipped the main 9/11 commemorations in New York, focusing instead on the ongoing fight against terrorism. Trump singled out Iran, suggesting that the United States is still engaged in the "war on terror" 25 years after the attacks.

He vowed, "We will never, ever forget. That's why we fight today, we don't have a choice. There can only be victory. We fight hard. We fight to win."

Trump's remarks came amid criticism from Democrats, who viewed his speech as a potential swipe at domestic fanatics within his party. The president was accompanied by his First Lady Melania Trump during the address. One of the planes hijacked on 9/11 targeted the Pentagon in Washington, causing the death of 184 individuals. These victims were remembered through a single bell toll, with their names read aloud.

However, previous presidents have marked major anniversaries by visiting multiple sites, including New York City, where the majority of the 2,977 victims were killed in the attacks on the World Trade Center.
