Student athlete of week: Jermiah Turner

LEXINGTON, Ky. — Jermiah Turner, a rising star at Bryan Station High School, has quickly become a force to be reckoned with on the football field. The 5-foot-9 running back demonstrated his versatility from the start, attracting offers from Division I programs. Turner embraces his more diminutive stature, channeling it into a unique approach that lets him run through or around defenders. His physicality and love for hitting set him apart.

However, Turner's journey has been far from easy. In his freshman year, his father was diagnosed with lung cancer. The ordeal took a significant toll on Turner, leading to depression, weight loss, and a decline in his academic performance. Yet, Turner's father's battle instilled in him a newfound determination. Realizing the fragility of life and the sacrifices his father made, Turner felt compelled to give back and focus on his recovery.

He frequently looked to his father in the stands, seeking his support and acknowledging the sacrifices he endured. Turner's strong mindset carried over to the field, where he continues to make an impact, playing with purpose and honoring his father's legacy.
