Protest in Sokoto over renewed bandits’ attacks

On Friday, residents of Tambuwal Local Government Area in Sokoto State organized a protest against repeated bandit attacks and kidnappings. The protesters, who were displaced by the attacks, blocked roads and demanded urgent deployment of security personnel to their communities. The protest, which began early Friday and continued until around 1pm, was witnessed by a resident who spoke to the media.

The protesters came from several displaced villages, including Margai, Girkau, Romon Liman, Romon Sarki, and Masu. They expressed anger over the attacks and what they described as a lack of government assistance after being displaced from their homes. A video showed youths chanting "We want justice" and burning tyres, although it did not depict the APC office being set ablaze.

During the protest, a young man named Usama Ibrahim was shot in the thigh, claiming he was injured by security personnel. Despite the police deploying personnel to the area and bringing the situation under control before the protest ended, the residents called on both the Federal and Sokoto State governments to take immediate measures to protect residents and enable displaced people to return to their communities.
