PM says S. Korea does not discriminate against foreign companies

Prime Minister Han Seong-sook affirmed on Friday that the Korean government does not discriminate against foreign companies, speaking at a meeting organized by the American Chamber of Commerce in Korea (AMCHAM) in Seoul. Concerns regarding potential discrimination against U.S. companies operating in Korea were among the issues discussed during ongoing tariff negotiations between the two nations.

"I want to make clear that the government does not discriminate against companies based on their nationality," Han stated, promising to provide a clear explanation of its policies should companies express concerns about discrimination. Senior U.S. officials and lawmakers have also expressed worries that American tech firms, like e-commerce leader Coupang, encounter regulatory disadvantages while doing business in Korea.

Han, a technology expert previously serving as CEO of the online portal company Naver before assuming her current government role, shared her firsthand experience navigating regulatory measures while leading the company. When approached by AMCHAM or other companies, Han expressed willingness to address any reported discrimination issues.
