Pat Utomi recalls surviving fatal accident 35 years ago

Political economist and former presidential candidate, Prof Pat Utomi, recounted his survival of a fatal accident 35 years ago in a Facebook post. The accident occurred near Asaba, claiming the life of his driver. Doctors at Boromeo Hospital in Onitsha declared Utomi had no pulse and was not breathing when he was brought in. The Chief of Surgery informed Utomi of this grim prognosis.

However, the surgeon, determined to save Utomi, refused to give up. The medical team found Utomi alive and performed surgery to stop the internal bleeding from the accident. Utomi's driver had already succumbed to his injuries. July has since become a month of thanksgiving for Utomi's family, who attribute their gratitude to God.

The political economist also reflected on a closer brush with death during the London terrorist attacks in July 2005, which left 52 civilians dead and over 200 injured. Utomi attributed his survival to divine intervention and expressed unwavering faith in God.
