Palghar Hospital Assault Case: Arrest Tally Rises To 12 As MLA’s Son Rohit Gavit And Sairaj Patil Held

In Palghar, Maharashtra, the arrest count in the Relief Hospital assault case has reached twelve. Police have apprehended Rohit Gavit, the son of Palghar MLA Rajendra Gavit, and Yuva Sena leader Sairaj Patil amidst an ongoing probe into the alleged assault and disturbance at the hospital. The incident took place early on September 6 following a disagreement over the treatment of Govinda, who had been injured during Dahi Handi festivities.

A group reportedly stormed Relief Hospital and engaged in a confrontation with medical professionals and staff. As a result, police registered a case against seventeen individuals. According to the police, nine members of a Govinda troupe were arrested on Friday morning, with three additional arrests occurring later in the day. These arrests followed an examination of CCTV footage from the hospital and its vicinity to pinpoint those allegedly involved in the incident. A local court has remanded the twelve accused to police custody until September 13.

Rohit Gavit was subsequently detained from Mira Road, while Sairaj Patil was apprehended in Shirdi and brought into police custody. Earlier, Shiv Sena Palghar city chief Rahul Gharat surrendered to the police and was subsequently arrested. He was also remanded to police custody until September 13. The case also lists Shiv Sena Palghar district chief Kundan Sankhe and other party officials.

The case has garnered additional attention due to criticism of the police investigation and the management of the alleged assault on medical personnel. Investigators are continuing to review CCTV footage and other evidence to ascertain the role of each accused.
