One dead, eight injured in accident on Sege-Kasseh highway

At approximately 14:30 on Tuesday, a tragic accident occurred on the Sege-Kasseh stretch of the Tema-Aflao Highway, resulting in one death and eight injuries. The collision involved three vehicles: two Opel Astra taxis and a Toyota Corolla. Eyewitnesses reported that the Toyota Corolla, with registration number GN 5838-20, was attempting to overtake another vehicle when it collided with an Opel Astra A, bearing the registration number GE 1269-13.

Subsequently, another Opel Astra A, with registration number AS 9643-13, struck the first taxi, causing damage to all three vehicles.

Assembly Member Ofori Apronti, representing the area, highlighted the issue of overloaded taxis, which could impede drivers' ability to maneuver swiftly during emergencies. He urged commercial drivers to prioritize road safety and exercise caution. One of the drivers, involved in the crash, was among those in critical condition, while the other six injured individuals were receiving treatment at the Sege Polyclinic.

Pastor Sampson Agbemabiase of the Assemblies of God Church in Sege, who witnessed the incident, alleged that the driver of the Toyota Corolla was speeding and overtaking dangerously. He stated that his car could have been involved had he not swerved to avoid the Corolla. Agbemabiase expressed concern over the response to the crash, stressing the importance of emergency responders' prompt action at accident scenes to save lives.

The Sege District Police Command deployed personnel to assist with traffic management and alleviate congestion caused by the crash. The Ghana News Agency (GNA) noted that the cause of the accident remains under investigation.
