North whipping up ethnic sentiments against Tinubu, can’t be blamed for insecurity – Shehu Sani

Former Kaduna Central Senator Shehu Sani has criticized the northern region of Nigeria for spreading ethnic and sectional sentiments against President Bola Tinubu, arguing that the opposition should stop blaming the president for insecurity in the region. Sani urged the opposition to adopt a more effective campaign strategy instead of damaging the image of the country and attacking the achievements of the Tinubu-led administration.

He pointed out that insecurity has decreased under the current administration, despite the fact that northerners held all key security positions from 2015 to 2023 during the late President Muhammadu Buhari's term. Sani stated that kidnappings and bandit attacks still occur in some parts of the country, but they are less severe compared to the situation before 2023.

He emphasized that the opposition's doomsday predictions are unfounded, as they claim to possess the power to end insecurity within a short period. Sani also highlighted that politicians from both the People's Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Party (APC) failed to tackle fundamental issues in the past, but now they are making false accusations.

He noted that the current security challenges are similar to those faced during Buhari's administration, when most security agencies were led by northerners. Sani stressed that people should address political issues rather than using ethnic and religious sentiments to gain political advantage. He criticized the opposition's claim that the subsidy removal plan is a lie, asserting that it is merely an economic misunderstanding.
