Ebonyi: Police arrest two over alleged N700,000 collection from six families

The Ebonyi State Police Command has arrested two individuals, Mr Justice Ozobi and his accomplice, over allegations of collecting ₦700,000 each from six families for the release of their sons, according to a report on Friday by the command's Public Relations Officer, SP Joshua Ukandu.

The police claim that the suspect used a photograph of a former Commissioner of Police, Ebonyi State Command, which subjected the retired senior police officer to unwarranted public ridicule and embarrassment. The suspect was reportedly arrested in Anambra State and is now being held in Ebonyi State Command for investigation.

The Ebonyi State Police Command has categorically refuted the allegations as false and misleading in a statement released to journalists in Abakaliki. The command emphasized that citizens have the right to express their views and raise genuine concerns, but they will not tolerate the dissemination of false, malicious, or defamatory information. The command reiterated its commitment to accountability and the highest standards of professionalism, discipline, and ethical conduct.

The police advised the public to verify information before sharing it and to direct genuine complaints to appropriate authorities for prompt and impartial investigation.
