Newborn’s body found in Dungun hostel locker, police investigating

A 19-year-old student is under investigation after allegedly concealing the body of her newborn baby in a hostel locker in Dungun, according to police reports. The baby, born at eight months gestation, is believed to have died shortly after birth. Dungun district police chief Supt Nik Ab Halim Nik Mat revealed that the discovery of the body was reported at 10.48pm yesterday.

The student reportedly wrapped the baby in cloth, placed it in a bag, and stored it in the locker. The matter came to light when the mosque management contacted the institution regarding the student's request for assistance in arranging the baby's burial. Police have collected statements from witnesses and conducted an investigation at the scene with the help of the Forensic Unit.

The body was subsequently sent to Dungun Hospital for post-mortem examination, and the case is being investigated under Section 318 of the Penal Code, which pertains to concealment of birth.
