Newborn Loses Hand After Alleged Negligence at Private Karachi Hospital

A one-month-old baby, Azmatullah, has lost his hand after what his family alleges was medical negligence at a private hospital in Karachi, Pakistan. The incident occurred after the baby became unwell and his father took him to a hospital in Orangi Town on August 31, 2026. Doctor Yasir Inam reportedly inserted a cannula into the baby's hand and administered injections through it, according to the father.

Four days later, when the bandage was removed, the baby's hand had turned black. The family then took the child to Jinnah Hospital, where doctors allegedly informed them that the infection was caused by the improper insertion of the cannula, leading to the amputation of the hand. The father has accused Dr. Inam and three unidentified hospital staff members of negligence.

The police have registered a case against the doctor and staff at the Pirabad police station, while the hospital administration stated they were only recently notified of the amputation and are currently under investigation and preparing for potential legal action.
