Mumbai Weather Update: Light Showers, Gusty Winds Likely Today; Yellow Alert For Weekend

Mumbai residents awoke to light rain, clouded skies and breezy conditions on Friday as monsoon weather persisted through the city. Overnight, various areas of Mumbai and its outskirts experienced light to moderate showers, providing a brief respite from the sticky heat after Thursday's rainfall. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Yellow Alert for Mumbai and the surrounding region for September 12 and 13, forecasting rising rainfall activity over the weekend. Expect partly cloudy skies with brief periods of light rain across the City and Suburbs.

According to the IMD, Mumbai and its suburbs will mostly remain cloudy on Friday, with intermittent light showers. While heavy rainfall is not anticipated, isolated regions may experience moderate to heavy downpours accompanied by gusty winds. Winds are expected to reach speeds of 40-50 kmph, with gusts possibly intensifying to 50-60 kmph during intense rain episodes. The highest temperature for Friday is anticipated to be around 33°C, with a minimum temperature of 28°C recorded early Friday morning.

Following a more than two-week break, rainfall is expected to resume over the weekend as temperatures and humidity rise. The IMD predicts thunderstorms with lightning, light to moderate rain, and gusty winds of 30-40 kmph on September 12 and 13. A heavy rain warning has been issued for specific areas. Mumbai's Air Quality Index (AQI) remained "Good" on Friday morning despite the monsoon weather. The AQI reading of 42 indicates minimal health risks.
