The nationwide average price for diesel in the United States has reached a record high of 6.00 US dollars per gallon, according to data from market analysis website Gasbuddy. This makes diesel the most expensive it has ever been. In euros, that translates to approximately 5.17 euros. Gasbuddy notes that this represents a 2.30 dollar increase in diesel prices compared to a year ago, when the national average was around 3.70 dollars.

The Automotive Association (AAA) reports that the average price of a gallon on Thursday was 5.977 dollars, with the price fluctuating daily. AAA has observed a clear upward trend, with the price of a gallon of gasoline rising by 13 cents to 4.277 dollars. Compared to a year ago, the average price was 3.194 dollars. The current price surge is largely due to the complex situation surrounding the Hormuz Strait, where Iran's war and disrupted shipping have reduced the supply of crude oil to the global market, leading to higher prices.

On Thursday, the price of a barrel of North Sea Brent crude oil for November delivery rose to 108 dollars for the first time since May, following the recent military escalation of the US-Iran war. Compared to Germany, diesel remains cheaper in the United States. In dollar terms, the current US gasoline price is about 97 cents per liter, while diesel is around 1.37 euros. German consumers pay 2.321 euros per liter for diesel, according to ADAC figures.
