Khan Younis brigade commander killed in Israeli airstrike – Hamas

Hamas has confirmed the death of Muhammad Abdul Salam al-Yazouri, the commander of the Khan Younis Brigade, following an Israeli airstrike in the southern Gaza Strip. The militant, also known as Abu al-Haitham, perished in the overnight attack in the Khan Younis region, according to Palestinian media outlets. A death notice for al-Yazouri was published by Hamas via a designated account used for announcing the passing of its fighters.

Israeli military officials have acknowledged the airstrike, stating it was conducted to target Hamas operatives. Nonetheless, they have not yet verified the identities of the casualties. Al-Yazouri's demise occurs amidst ongoing Israeli military actions in southern Gaza during the ongoing conflict with Hamas. He is the most recent senior Hamas commander to be reported killed in Khan Younis.

His predecessor, Rafa'a Salameh, was among those killed in July 2024, alongside Hamas military wing chief Muhammad Deif, as per Israeli authorities.
