Karpowership promotes reading culture among Essipong pupils

Karpowership, a Nigerian power generation company, has been working to foster a strong reading culture among pupils at the Essipong STMA Basic School in Sekondi-Takoradi. As part of their efforts to celebrate International Literacy Day on September 9, Karpowership organized an interactive reading and learning session for children aged 3 to 11 years.

The company invited its employees to participate alongside the pupils, creating an engaging environment centered on storytelling, reading, and the importance of cultivating a love for books at an early age. The event, themed 'Light Up! Read to Lead – Powering Young Minds for a Brighter Tomorrow,' aimed to inspire children to view reading as a pathway to knowledge, imagination, confidence, and leadership.

Karpowership employees led storytelling sessions and reading activities, ensuring that learning was enjoyable. In addition to the educational activities, Karpowership generously donated age-appropriate storybooks, school bags, and other essential educational materials to the school to support teaching and learning as the new academic year commenced.

Sandra Amarquaye, Karpowership's Communications Manager, emphasized the significance of reading in helping children develop crucial skills like knowledge, imagination, and confidence, which can help them become future leaders. Through their 'Light Up! Read to Lead' initiative, Karpowership aspired to encourage children to read, imagine, learn, and dream.

Sandra Amarquaye also appreciated the involvement of the company's employees directly with the pupils, making the reading experience more exciting and meaningful. The Headmistress of the school, Mrs. Mary Quayson, expressed gratitude to Karpowership for their support in encouraging reading among the pupils. Books, she noted, are vital to the learning process, and the donation would provide pupils with more opportunities to read, explore, and develop their imagination.

She appreciated Karpowership's commitment to making reading an enjoyable experience for the students. Nana Kofi Abuna V, the Chief of Essipong, also expressed his gratitude to Karpowership for their continued support for education and young people in the community. He emphasized the importance of the initiative in promoting reading and giving pupils an opportunity to interact with professionals while nurturing their interest in books and learning.

He urged the pupils to make full use of the donated books and other materials and to embrace reading as an essential part of their personal development. The pupils themselves found the event highly engaging. One participant shared their enjoyment of the stories, saying they were interesting and had taught them new things. They expressed happiness over the new books they would have for reading and pledged to share the stories with their friends.

The "One Staff, One Book" initiative encouraged Karpowership employees to donate a storybook or other suitable reading material to bolster the school's reading resources. This allowed staff members to actively participate in the initiative and interact with the pupils, sharing their time and motivation in their reading journey.
