‘Don’t meddle in SOEs day-to-day affairs’ -Mahama cautions Board Chairs

President John Dramani Mahama has urged State-Owned Enterprise (SOE) board chairs to refrain from interfering in the daily operations of these enterprises. He stressed that board members must focus on providing strategic direction, setting policies, and ensuring financial integrity and institutional performance. Mahama emphasized that executive authority is a responsibility, not a privilege, and that boards should govern while management handles day-to-day operations.

He called for boards to maintain independence, competence, and integrity in their oversight roles. He also challenged boards to agree on a set of measurable priorities for the next reporting cycle, covering financial performance, service delivery, governance, risk, audits, compliance, and national development contributions. Mahama promised to track these priorities and hold boards accountable for their performance, with strong results being recognized and weaknesses addressed through targeted improvement measures.
