Kaduna gov approves ASUU request, urges KASU lecturers to end strike

Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani has approved the 2025 Federal Government-Academic Staff Union of Universities salary agreement for KASU staff, effective October 2026. This decision came after an indefinite strike by KASU ASUU members over unresolved demands. Education Commissioner Prof Abubakar Sani Sambo announced the approval at a press briefing, stating it followed recommendations from a nine-member negotiation committee.

The package includes revised salary structures, allowances, and other adjustments as per the 2025 FGN-ASUU agreement. Sambo urged KASU lecturers and other unions to engage in dialogue to reciprocate the government's gesture. The government also approved a one-off payment of N300 million to address a backlog of over N800 million in accumulated entitlements since 2016.

KASU Vice-Chancellor Prof Abdullahi Ibrahim Musa praised the governor's interventions, highlighting significant investments in staff welfare and university operations. The state government has also cleared withheld salaries and invested in accreditation and infrastructure development.
