Kaduna gov approves ASUU request, urges KASU lecturers to end strike

Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, has approved the 2025 Federal Government-Academic Staff Union of Universities salary agreement for KASU academic staff, effective October 2026. The decision came amidst KASU ASUU's indefinite strike over unresolved demands. The Commissioner of Education, Prof Abubakar Sani Sambo, announced the approval at a press briefing, stating it was based on the recommendations of a nine-member Government-KASU/ASUU Negotiation Committee.

The package includes the revised Consolidated University Academic Salary Structure, Consolidated Academic Tools Allowance, and other salary adjustments, as per the 2025 FGN-ASUU agreement. Sambo urged the striking lecturers and other university-based unions to return to dialogue and reciprocate the government's gesture, emphasizing that a government that listens deserves a university community committed to constructive engagement.

KASU Vice-Chancellor, Prof Abdullahi Ibrahim Musa, highlighted the unprecedented interventions in staff welfare and the university's operations by the governor's administration, including the release of over N800m in withheld salaries and over N300m for essential academic activities in 2026.
