Ingebrigtsen caps comeback with Ultimate 5,000m victory, Duplantis wins pole vault title

Tobi Amusan claimed a silver medal and $75,000 in prize money on the first day of the inaugural World Athletics Ultimate Championships in Budapest, Hungary. The former 100m hurdles world record holder finished in 12.34 seconds, behind American Masai Russell, who set a new record at 12.22 seconds. Dutch sprint hurdler Nadine Visser rounded out the podium after crossing the finish line in 12.39 seconds.

Although Amusan did not win gold, her runner-up performance secured a substantial prize and marked Nigeria's first significant achievement at the championships. Amusan had already earned her spot in the final by finishing second in her semi-final with a time of 12.49 seconds. In the women's 400m, Nigeria's Ella Onojuwerevwo did not advance to the final after competing in the opening rounds.

Despite missing the championship race, Onojuwerevwo concluded her season on an encouraging note by breaking the 50-second barrier and gaining valuable experience against top-tier athletes. Nigeria's opening-day performance was marred by disappointment, as the country was excluded from the final start list for the mixed 4x100m relay.

Despite this setback, Nigeria's positive start with Amusan's silver medal sees the team focusing on the remaining events as the inaugural World Athletics Ultimate Championships continue in Budapest.
