GPM Malaysia heads to Nepal to assess urgent needs of survivors after deadly floods

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 11 - Global Peace Mission (GPM) Malaysia has sent a team of three humanitarian workers to Nepal to evaluate the needs of victims following the devastating floods in the country. The team, led by GPM Malaysia CEO Ahmad Fahmi Mohd Samsudin, will be stationed in Nepal from today until Sept 14. This assessment mission is being undertaken in partnership with Nepal’s National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority.

The primary objective of the mission is to evaluate the present situation in affected areas and ascertain the requirements of the victims to facilitate efficient post-disaster aid delivery, Ahmad Fahmi stated in a recent statement. The team's initial priorities for assistance include providing hygiene kits, blankets, and basic food supplies to the affected families.

According to the earlier report from Nepal, the floods that occurred on Aug 26 have caused extensive destruction in various regions, particularly along the Bhote Koshi and Trishuli rivers. As of Sept 9, Nepalese authorities have officially confirmed the recovery of 1,367 bodies, while over 5,000 individuals are still listed as missing.

GPM Malaysia has called upon Malaysians to show solidarity and contribute towards alleviating the burden faced by those affected by the disaster.
