Gov’t to give 20% incentives to health workers in undeserved areas

President John Dramani Mahama has announced a 20% incentive for health workers willing to serve in deprived and underserved regions. The incentive aims to encourage healthcare professionals to work in areas where the need for medical care is most significant. At a community engagement in the Daffiama-Bussie-Issa District, Mahama commended health workers for their dedication to serving underserved parts of the country.

He revealed that the government is working on measures to address the uneven distribution of health professionals across the nation and attract more workers to deprived communities. Residents in underserved areas have been urged to support and appreciate health workers who accept postings to their regions, as their contribution is crucial in bringing healthcare closer to the people.

The government is also improving infrastructure such as roads, water, electricity, and other amenities in deprived districts to create a more comfortable environment for health professionals. Additionally, the Minister for Health, Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, announced the procurement of 5,000 more healthcare bags and 7,000 motorcycles and tricycles for distribution to Free Primary Healthcare (FPHC) facilities nationwide.

These additional resources complement those already distributed and will strengthen health workers' capacity to conduct community and household visits under the FPHC program. The event, part of President Mahama's Resetting Ghana tour in the Upper West Region, aims to bring essential FPHC services closer to the people, particularly in community and under-served areas.
