Ganeshotsav 2026: Maharashtra Govt Revises Heavy Vehicle Curbs On Mumbai-Goa National Highway, Allows Police To Relax Restrictions

Navi Mumbai, September 10, 2026: The Maharashtra government has adjusted its heavy vehicle movement restrictions on the Mumbai-Goa National Highway 66 during the Ganesh festival. Navi Mumbai police commissioner and district police chiefs can now relax the curbs based on traffic and devotee movements, the Transport Department announced.

Vehicles weighing 16 tonnes or more will be barred from the highway from 8 am on September 19 until 11 pm on September 20, according to the revised order. This consolidates the earlier restrictions on September 19 and September 20 into one continuous period. The move aims to manage festival traffic and ensure the safe and smooth return journey of devotees to Konkan after Gauri-Ganpati immersion.

Navi Mumbai police and district superintendents of police have been given the authority to relax the restrictions as needed, considering both devotee movements and traffic conditions. Import and export cargo movement from JNPT remains a priority, ensuring the flow of goods between Navi Mumbai and Raigad. The government's decision is part of a larger traffic management plan for the festival, with additional police personnel deployed on highways leading towards Konkan.
