French player leaves Club América over racist abuse of his children

Allan Saint-Maximin, a 29-year-old France winger, has left Club América due to racist abuse his children faced while attending school in Mexico. The French player, who now plays for Charlotte FC, emphasized the importance of speaking out against discrimination, particularly when his family was impacted. Saint-Maximin stated, "Whatever your colour is, you don’t have to accept this."

He previously expressed his feelings on Instagram, with his post garnering over 159,000 likes. During his time at Club América, Saint-Maximin did not provide specific details about the incident but revealed that his children were not happy about it. The French club publicly supported Saint-Maximin and his family, while teammates held a "No to racism" banner during a match against Necaxa.

Saint-Maximin clarified that his decision was not a criticism of Club América, expressing love for the club and its people. He emphasized that the difficult choice was made to protect his family's wellbeing. Saint-Maximin joined Lens on a short-term deal, helping them win the French Cup and finish second in Ligue 1. He later chose Charlotte FC, driven by a family decision.
