Flavio Bolsonaro probed for corruption as Brazil election tightens

Brazilian presidential candidate Flavio Bolsonaro, son of former leader Jair Bolsonaro, is under investigation for alleged corruption and money laundering, according to a newly released court document. The investigation began in July and has led to dozens of raids targeting the company that produced a biopic about Jair Bolsonaro, titled "Dark Horse."

The film, starring US actor Jim Caviezel, is under scrutiny as part of a broader corruption scandal. Flavio Bolsonaro maintains his innocence, stating that the film is completely legal. He has been banned from leaving Brazil pending the outcome of the investigation, along with Karina Gama, head of the production company, and Mario Frias, a pro-Bolsonaro congressman who is listed as the film's executive producer.

The allegations have rocked Bolsonaro's right-wing campaign, just weeks before the October 4 presidential election. Voters in Brazil's largest economy are deeply polarized, with incumbent leftist Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and Flavio Bolsonaro neck-and-neck in voting intentions. Lula's campaign may be more affected by the corruption allegations than Bolsonaro's, as he has previously faced corruption charges.
