Every Universal Studios Hollywood Halloween Horror Nights House, Ranked

Universal Studios Hollywood's annual Halloween Horror Nights event, running until November 1, offers a lineup of houses that primarily revolve around existing intellectual properties. This year's attractions include "Sinners," based on Ryan Coogler's vampire film, as well as Clive Barker's "Hellraiser" and the latest installment in the "Evil Dead" series, "Evil Dead Burn."

It's somewhat perplexing that two of the year's most successful and talked-about horror movies, "Obsession" by Universal's Focus and A24's "Backrooms," are absent from the event this year. However, a last-minute addition brings Nikki, a walkaround character from "Obsession," though her exact location remained elusive throughout the night.

Regrettably, we weren't able to witness her presence. The future might bring a "Backrooms" house, complete with a creepy carpet-person transformation, making for an intriguing food tie-in. It's worth noting the exceptional efforts of the actors who bring these houses to life, transforming ordinary guests into terrified patrons. Their dedication is truly commendable.

Universal Studios Hollywood ranks the houses, starting with the least impressive. "Killer Klowns from Outer Space" is the bottom of the list, having been a recurring attraction at the event since 2019 and 2022. While it's not a bad experience, the recycled nature of the house is disheartening, especially considering it's the third time it's appeared at Universal Studios Hollywood.

"Terror Tram Starring Art the Clown" from the "Terrifier" films earns the second-lowest rank. While the tram offers a unique twist with its evil Christmas theme and memorable moments like Art shooting down Santa's plane, the excess of grossout humor and repetitive scares detract from the overall experience. A suggested improvement for next year is a Terror Tram themed after Alfred Hitchcock classics, potentially elevating the attraction.

The third-place house is "Evil Dead Burn," based on the summer's "Evil Dead Burn." The house features numerous scares and impressive special effects, including a fiery climactic sequence. However, some critics argue that the film lacked the lightheartedness of earlier entries in the franchise. With Bruce Campbell's recent battle with cancer and the release of the medieval "Army of Darkness" installment, there's hope for a classic "Evil Dead" house in the near future, paying tribute to the franchise's star and legacy.
