European innovators like what GBA has to offer

European entrepreneurs and innovators recently concluded a five-day government-led tour of the Greater Bay Area (GBA), expressing their enthusiasm for the experience and potential business opportunities. The 20-member delegation, comprised of winners from a tech competition organized by Hong Kong Talent Engage and the EuroTech Federation in Germany, explored key tech centers in Hong Kong, Shenzhen, and Guangzhou. During their stay, they visited research institutions and key tech hubs.

One German physician and CEO of an AI medical assistant startup, Cem Deniz Araz, was particularly impressed by the diverse range of business opportunities in the GBA, noting that it extends beyond finance. He also marveled at the presence of self-driving cars and drone-delivered donuts in the region. Araz mentioned the possibility of establishing a business presence in Hong Kong in the future, citing the growing aging population as a potential market for his startup.

Another Russian co-founder of an AI startup, Aleksandr Gorbunov, expressed his amazement at the region's robotics sector, highlighting the scale and advancement of technology. He stated that biotech, medicine, and robotics were the most impressive aspects of the GBA, with robots capable of even mimicking human dance moves and behavior. Gorbunov plans to launch robotics projects in Europe and consider shifting manufacturing to the GBA in the future.

Secretary for Labour and Welfare Chris Sun joined part of the delegation's tour of Cyberport, where he tried out workout bikes alongside the participants. Sun received positive feedback from the delegation, praising the tour for showcasing the latest environment and opportunities for development in the GBA. He assured that the delegation's positive impressions would likely influence their future plans.
